What is a life cycle assessment?
Life cycle assessment, or LCA, is briefly put an assessment of a product’s lifecycle to calculate the carbon footprint that covers each stage of the product’s life. It is an important element of our efforts to reduce our climate impact is enabling customers and consumers to make informed choices.
We have developed a third-party-verified model for LCA, that enables us to calculate the carbon footprint of all our fresh retail products from the abattoirs as well as for particular recipes. This means that we can calculate the impact of processed products such as bacon, pepperoni and sausages using data from specific suppliers, abattoirs and processing facilities.
We continuously improve the underlying data to ensure that our calculations are up to date and aligned with international standards.
