In just a few weeks, all of Danish Crowns green and black meat trays in the refrigerated counters in Denmark will be made of environmentally-friendly PET-plastic.

In future, the around 60 members of Bonusgrisen will deliver their animals to Danish Crown. Thus, they will be among the first to benefit from Danish Crowns new financial contribution for new cooperative members.

Meat trays made of black PET are currently not detectable with the sorting technology used by Danish recyclers, a limitation that leads to trays being incinerated instead of being recycled. Danish Crown is actively addressing this challenge by changing the colour of millions of meat trays from black to the green Evolve by Faerch trays. In addition to enabling increased tray recycling, the new trays will be composed of at least 90 percent recycled plastic.

Organic production and animal welfare

We want to be leading when it comes to transparency and that obliges.

It must again be attractive to produce slaughter pigs in Denmark. Therefore, between now and 2021, Danish Crown will be raising the settlement price paid to owners by DKK 0.60 per kg.

Danish Crown has been strengthened financially, and this will now benefit the 7,166 Danish farmers who own the company.
