Randers, 4 November 2013
On 30 October, Danish Crown’s special pigs, Antonius and Den Go'e Gris, received an international award for good animal welfare. It happened when the UK organisation Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) presented this year’s Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards in Paris.
Antonius and Den Go'e Gris received a Good Sow Award for the conditions for sows in the stalls.
- We are finding that a growing circle of customers are taking an interest in animal welfare. It was for this reason that we created the Antonius and Den Go'e Gris (The Good Pig) brands, where the pigs have more space, and where more is generally done to ensure the animals’ well-being, which in turn also improves the quality and taste of the meat, says Uffe Frovst, VP Domestic Market, DC Pork Denmark, and continues:
- The Antonius and Den Go'e Gris concepts allow us to offer a wider product range to our customers, which to some extent has given us a competitive advantage in the market. In future, we will maintain and possibly develop these distinctions in relation to traditional production. For example, from 2017 sows must be loose-housed all the time.
This is the sixth year that CIWF is presenting the Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards. Read more at www.compassioninfoodbusiness.com/
