Ever since the slaughterhouse in Horsens was taken into use 15 years ago, DAT-Schaub has been working to receive employees who need an extra hand to function in the workplace.
DAT-Schaub in Horsens has received CSRpeople 2020, which has been awarded by the Job Task Force for companies in Horsens who want to take social responsibility. That is exactly what is wanted in DAT-Schaub, where the 150 employees are used to having colleagues who need a special hand-held effort.
Intestinal master René Erichsen says that it all started when the intestinal house opened at the same time as the new slaughterhouse in 2004. To get enough people, he had to do something. In addition to hiring employees on normal terms, he took in people who for some reason did not have it easy. It happened in collaboration with the municipality - We have had young people with foot shackles, and people on methadone. Sometimes we have to teach new people to get up in the morning and to come back after their breaks on time. They must be taken by hand, and we also agree to meetings with, among others, the Danish Prison and Probation Service, the job center and the municipality, says René Erichsen.
- It requires a great deal of work, just as it requires a great deal of inclusiveness from colleagues. But we have created a culture in the department where there is room for it, he explains.
Currently, 4 employees in vulnerable positons are employed. Often there are approx. 10 at a time. Many become permanent employees afterwards.
- We have someone who has had a 10 year anniversary with us. It means a lot to them. Or when someone comes and tells you that he has now bought a house - the first thing he has ever owned. Or when they have children.
- It is exciting to work with them. And think about what it means for us to help them learn how to make their own money. If only we could save one a year who contributes to society. Out of a cohort, there are 5,000 young people who have no connection to the labor market, says René Erichsen eagerly.
The CSRpeople award is the Horsens Alliance recognition of companies that take social responsibility. Since 2016, the alliance has done so for companies that make a special social effort to help vulnerable unemployed people become self-sufficient.
