A clerical training at a slaughterhouse can take you far. While Danish Crown’s CEO Kjeld Johannesen started his career as a clerical trainee at the slaughterhouse in Hurup in northern Jutland and stayed in the industry, the Danish Minister of Economic and Business Affairs Annette Vilhelmsen has worked in various fields since her traineeship at the slaughterhouse Svendborg Andelsslagteri.
Old love dies hard. The minister was therefore extremely curious and asked a lot of questions as she heard about the latest developments when she visited Danish Crown’s pig slaughterhouse in Horsens.
- So much has changed since I worked at a slaughterhouse. What strikes me especially is the impressive degree of flow in production. Everything has been thought through down to the smallest detail, and thanks to the combination of state-of-the-art technology and, in particular, highly qualified employees, both efficiency and hygiene levels are unparalleled, so it has been a very interesting visit, said Annette Vilhelmsen, immediately after her guided tour of Europe’s biggest pig slaughterhouse.
The minister had been invited to Horsens by Kjeld Johannesen to hear about the challenges which Danish Crown currently faces as well as the possibilities open to the company.
- We are acknowledging the bold growth plan which the government has proposed, and it is always a pleasure to talk to people with professional knowledge of the slaughterhouse business, said a smiling Kjeld Johannesen after the meeting. At the same time, he did not hide the fact that Danish Crown sets great store by the minister’s visit, and the fact that she is taking the opportunity to learn more about the company.
