We want to work with our suppliers of slaughter animals to support modern agricultural production going hand in hand with nature by growing and producing more effectively in the areas, where doing so is sustainable while releasing marginal lands back to nature.
Our work on biodiversity is still in its development phase and has two focus areas: encouraging the use of responsible soy and palm oil in our supply chain, and rolling out the biodiversity parameters of the Climate Track to more farmers to strengthen our baseline to further develop our biodiversity work in the future.

Moving biodiversity forward
Biodiversity has become a part of our sustainability programme, the Climate Track. This part of the Climate Track currently covers selected cattle farmers.
Together with leading experts in the field from Danish universities, we have identified in total five initiatives, that can support biodiversity at the farms, see below.
We have also contributed to the development of ‘Naturkortet’ from SEGES. ‘Naturkortet’ is a tool where Danish farmers can map the biodiversity on their farms through important nature indicators and thereby provide a better overview of future efforts and focus areas.

Five initiatives that can support biodiversity at the farms
- Preserve and secure sheltered fences, old trees, heather, game sheds and pastures which are habitats for beetles and insects.
- Minimise the use of de-wormers for cattle grazing on natural areas to increase the population of beetles and flies in cow dungs.
- Increase cattle grazing of natural areas which supports the natural animal and plant life on and around the field.
- Establish buffer zones along protected areas and vulnerable habitats.
- Compensate for environmental impact by buying or renting land for nature conservation instead of extracting quality farmland.
