Until a short time ago, this was just a 114,000-square-metre plot of well-tended land in Holsted in southern Jutland. Now the first elements for Danish Crown’s new cattle slaughterhouse are in place, and the buildings are slowly beginning to take shape.
- The turnkey contractor, Midtjydsk Totalbyg, is busy erecting concrete elements in the basement of the animal feed area. They will then move on to the pluck department and the cold store unit on the ground floor as soon as the deck has been installed, explains Niels V. Juhl, Danish Crown’s on-site project manager.
- Everything is going according to plan, and the contractors are working hard to close some of the building before the onset of winter, says Niels V. Juhl.
In the coming months, almost 400 people will be involved in constructing the most modern cattle slaughterhouse in Europe.
The plan is for the administration and personnel building to be ready for occupation in August 2013. Production is expected to be up an running by February 2014, with 300 new jobs being created at the slaughterhouse.
