For the first time ever, a Danish restaurant has been named the world’s best. This was a reality when Restaurant Noma took the coveted top spot at the San Pellegrino Awards in London on Monday. Number two was the legendary El Bulli from Spain, while The Fat Duck from England was number three.

Congratulations from the Gold Room!
Noma is an abbreviation for ‘Nordisk mad’ – or Nordic food. And it is precisely the uncompromising focus on Nordic high-quality ingredients that has, with record speed, established Noma’s name among the absolute elite of world cuisine.

Danish Crown’s ‘Gold Room’ in Kolding supplies several specialities to Noma, and we would like to take this opportunity to send the Noma team our warmest congratulations.
- We are delighted that Noma has won the award. They fully deserve it after all they have done to place Nordic cuisine on the world map, and we are, of course, immensely proud to supply the world’s best restaurant, says Rone Stokholm Kruse, who manages Danish Crown’s Gold Room in Kolding.

The Gold Room supplies delicacies such as Duroc pigs, sweetbread and pigs’ tails to Noma.
- It’s usually the slightly off-beat things that Noma asks for. Unusual cuts and specialities which tie in perfectly with Noma’s completely unique menus and their use of rare Nordic ingredients, says Rone Stokholm Kruse.

Broad recognition
Noma was opened in 2003 by its chef Rene Redzepi and Claus Meyer. Since then it has enjoyed steady success with several international awards for the Danish restaurant. On Monday it culminated with the San Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurant award, making headlines in both the Danish and world media.

Restaurant Noma has two Michelin Stars, and Rene Redzepi was also voted ‘The Chefs’ Chef’ in Denmark in 2008.
