Hauliers support Danish Crown’s future

God gris

Randers, 25 february 2010

All the hauliers transporting pigs for Danish Crown have decided to support the company in its endeavours to improve competitiveness. Even before a new collective agreement is made for the transport sector, which may entail pay increases for drivers, all our hauliers have elected to absorb any pay increases themselves rather than expecting Danish Crown to foot the bill.

- It is important to signal that we empathise with our customers, the pig producers. Without them, we would not be here. So this is our contribution to DC Future, and hopefully it will help more farmers see some light at the end of the tunnel, says Erik Rasmussen, daily manager of the pig hauliers Grisetransport Fyn.

According to an agreement made between the hauliers and Danish Crown, the hauliers are entitled to increase the rates charged for collecting pigs and sows in case of pay increases during the term of the agreement. However, following a meeting at the Danish Crown head office in Randers yesterday, this provision was removed from the existing agreement.

- We have discussed the possibility of removing the provision with the hauliers, and we are pleased with the decision which they have reached. This represents another contribution to our ambitious nine-point plan, DC Future, and will help strengthen Danish Crown’s competitive edge, says Vagner Bøge, Deputy Chief Executive in Danish Crown.

Danish Crown collaborates with 20 hauliers who cover selected areas and employ a total of 350 drivers.
- We stand shoulder to shoulder with the pig farmers in this situation. This is a challenge which we can only overcome together. And, of course, that applies to my people as well. What many of my employees are saying is that having a job is more important than more pay, says Erik Rasmussen.
