- It has simply gone so well, says Agnete Poulsen, Danish Crown Visitor Manager and the person responsible for the Bacon Bar and the Pigsty which again this year were Danish Crown’s contributions to the Skanderborg Festival.
And the figures speak for themselves. Overall, sales doubled compared with last year.
Approx. 800 brunches were served each day. That is just over 100 brunches more per day compared with last year's figures.
The many visitors also welcomed the new barbecued food on offer. On Saturday, 689 festival-goers made their way to the Bacon Bar for tender meat, crispy sausages and fresh salads.
Even juicier festival with the Beef Division
Quite apart from the meals served by Danish Crown’s own outlets, the Skanderborg Festival generally needed meat. Lots of meat. The festival had therefore ordered more than 22,000 juicy beefburgers and 3,000 tender steaks. Supplied by the Beef Division.
The 22,000 beefburgers were sold from the festival’s own burger stands, while the 3,000 steaks were served by ‘Walters Steakhouse’.
Last year, the delicious steaks led to huge queues forming outside ‘Walters Steakhouse’. To prevent the queues and to give people a chance to eat great meat without having to wait for ages, the Beef Division decided to bring along its own barbecue facility and staff. The delivery included 1,600 ribeye steaks with salads and sauces.
According to Pia Mejl Krautwald, Product Developer with the Beef Division, handing the many ribeye steaks across the counter was hot work.
- But everything worked really well. People were very pleased with the initiative and loved the ribeye steaks.
Massive media coverage
It was not only those inhabiting the pig arks and the other festival-goers who were enthusiastic about Danish Crown’s Bacon Bar and the Friland Pigsty. The media were also extremely eager to join the party. For example BT-tv and Jyllandsposten came by to talk to the newly-weds in the Pigsty, P3 ‘auctioned’ a pig ark to sleep in, and P4 came to serve breakfast with the happy pig Frilandsgrisen Frida.
- Each year we measure whether it is worth the time and money in terms of PR value and media coverage. And this year, the media coverage was possibly even greater than the past two years, says Anne Villemoes, Director of Corporate Communications, who is more than satisfied with all the media attention which the Pigsty and the Bacon Bar attracted.
