Biogasification of biomass
All Danish Crown pig slaughterhouses supply biomass to biogas plants. The biomass consists primarily of manure and sawdust from pig lorries, gastrointestinal contents and waste-water sludge. Based on deliveries from Danish Crown and manure from farmers, heating and electricity are generated. In this way, the biomass from the pig slaughterhouses replaces fossil fuels, thereby reducing CO2 emissions. The volume of biogas generated on the basis of biomass from Danish Crown in 2006/07 corresponds to the heating consumed by 800 households.
