Heat recovery
An obvious way of saving energy is by reusing heat several times, and heat recovery is implemented in many applications at the slaughterhouses. Heat recovery in Danish Crown has increased from approx. 2.2 to 4.1 kWh per pig slaughtered over the past four years, as shown in the graph below. Heat is primarily recovered from air compressors, the cooling process and singeing ovens. The recovered heat corresponds to the heat consumption of approx. 2,500 households.
