By-products are reutilised

Danish Crown has always focused on the most expedient use of by-products. Some parts of the pig can, for aesthetic reasons and reasons of hygiene, not be sold for human consumption, and some parts are required by law to be discarded. Danish Crown sorts these by-products into various classes to ensure their optimum use.

The subsequent use of these by-products contributes to reducing the consumption of fossil fuels and to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The by-products are primarily used to generate energy and produce animal feedstuffs. Danish Crown’s and the industry’s most recent initiative in this area is the company Daka Biodiesel, which transforms animal fat into biodiesel. Biodiesel is made from genuine by-products and is thus a truly climate-friendly alternative fuel.
