Considerable improvements already accomplished

Even though the climate debate is a relatively recent phenomenon, Danish Crown has striven to introduce environmental improvements for many years – improvements which have also had a bearing on the climate change impact of our activities.

Through targeted benchmark programmes and development projects, considerable progress has been made, which means that Danish Crown is much better geared to tackling these challenges today than many international competitors.

Special attention should be paid to the following aspects:

The pork chop and the climate – some analogies:

It may be difficult to relate to the many abstract figures and concepts being hurled around in the climate debate. And so the following comparisons may help to put things into perspective:

The basis is an ordinary Danish Crown pork chop with a climate change impact of 360 g CO2 eq

This impact corresponds to either
• Drinking 4 cups of coffee
• Driving 1 km in a private car
• Hoovering for 25 minutes
• Watching television for 4 hours and 45 minutes
• Filling half a bath tub (with water heated by means of district heating)

On the other hand, a return flight for one person to Thailand, which entails the emission of 2 tonnes of CO2, corresponds to the consumption of 5,555 pork chops.

did you know?

Vidste du ...
… that Danish Crown´s danish slaughterhouses process meat from 60,000 pigs every day. Weighing in at around  4,100 tons, this is enough to fill 184 lorries.
